FAQ

Q: What is a professional organizer?
A:
Professional organizers provide information, products and assistance to help others organize to meet their needs. They have a creative insight to organizing as well as a desire to make your life clutter-free, stress-free and functional.

Q: What will a professional organizer do for me?
A:
A professional organizer will provide ideas on how to become organized and guide you through the process. They will begin with an assessment to identify your organizing needs. They will talk with you to identify what is working for you and what isn't as well as get a feel for your individual personality and natural habits. They will then begin a sorting process which will be followed by other steps to the completion of becoming organized. They will utilize any existing containers or shelves and are willing to purchase additional materials with your approval. Above all, they will provide support throughout the organization process to help you create a newfound freedom.

Q: Why should I hire a NAPO organizer rather than a non-NAPO organizer?
A: The National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) is recognized as the association for organizers. NAPO offers organizers opportunities to sharpen their skills through ongoing education and professional development. NAPO has a Code of Ethics by which members are expected to abide. A professional organizer who is a NAPO member has made a commitment to his/her business and thus to you, the client.

Q: Will a professional organizer make me throw away all of my "stuff"?
A: A professional organizer is a consultant who will ask questions, make observations and suggestions to help you decide what is or is not important to you. Ultimately, you , the client, is the final decision-maker.

Q: How long will it take me to get organized?
A: There is no set answer as each organizing project is different. The length of a project will depend primarily on the size of the space, the amount of clutter that has built up and how quickly you can make decisions.

Q: I am a very private person. Will my sessions with a professional organizer be confidential?
A: A NAPO professional organizer is aware of the high level of trust placed in them by their clients. They should never do say anything to breach that trust. Integrity, honesty and confidentiality are the guiding principles of NAPO.

Q: Is there really hope that I can get organized? How do I stay organized?
A: Absolutely! If you WANT to get organized, you can. It is possible to learn the basic principles of organizing, however, in order to experience long-lasting, life-changing results, a professional organizer can teach you to maintain your space by scheduling sessions on a regular basis.
